Milk and Hops
A great hybrid beer bar and gourmet store selling cheeses, chocolates, and more.
Directions - R / W train to 8th Street-NYU, take one of the north-western (East 8th Street and west side of Broadway) exits, walk north on Broadway for just over one short block. Alternatively, 6 train to Astor Place, walk west on East 8th Street for one block, turn right on Broadway (cross to the west side), walk north for just over one short block.
A pleasant hybrid beer bar and store, selling gourmet cheeses, chocolates, and other items. There is a large and eclectic range of bottles and cans including some rare releases. Those are priced to take out, there is a $2 corkage fee to drink any of them on the premises. Space is quite limited however, so it's best to get there early; there are 11 stools at the marble-topped bar, plus another six at the front window and solitary adjacent table. Food is limited to a range of tasty cheese-based toasted sandwiches or baguettes, plus cheese and meat plates. Wifi details are written in marker pen on the tiles behind the bar. The ownership and concept is the same as the two Astoria Bier and Cheese places in Queens (q.v.) (12/2015)
