Basic, modern bar with six good taps and a few bottles.

Directions – L train to Lorimer Street or G train to Metropolitan Avenue (same station complex), head north on Union Avenue to just past the expressway flyover – look to the right and you’ll see the bar across from Mount Carmel Triangle.

This is a small, basic, modern bar with six taps - all pouring craft beers. The setting overlooking the elevated Brooklyn-Queens Expressway isn’t very romantic, but don’t let that put you off. There are not many choices, but the limited range is generally well chosen. Food is limited to sandwiches. Trivia nights are held on Thursdays at 2000. The bar is named after Frederick Exley, a New York writer who apparently was a heavy drinker. Popular with artists - and hipsters ordering bizarre cocktails involving raw eggs. (3/2015)
