New York NY 10003
Pioneering stalwart beer bar, one of the first with cask.
Directions – F train to 2nd Avenue, use the east (1st Avenue) exit, walk north on 1st Avenue.
One of the first bars in NYC to embrace real cask-conditioned beer back in the 1990s. Dimly-lit and welcoming, there is a good beer list though the cask is now only one on gravity dispense at most times (not so much in the summer). There is a pleasant back patio area which is enclosed. Recently refurbished in early 2015, including refurbishment of the previously infamous mens’ toilet. (2/2015)
Happy hour 4.30pm until 7.30pm weekdays, $5 beers. 12 taps, occasional gravity casks, & over 60 bottled beers. Many rotating beers; always something interesting - though it can be dark and noisy. Lovely beer garden out the back for warmer days and very mellow in the afternoon.
