Other Half Brewing Company
Brooklyn NY 11231
(Carroll Gardens / Cobble Hill)
Brewery with an expanded taproom as of September 2017. IPAs rule here.
Directions – F / G train to Smith-9th Streets, walk south on Smith Street towards the expressway flyover, turn right briefly on Centre Street.
This is an IPA centric brewery with a much enlarged taproom as of summer 2017. (9/2017) [The following earlier review is out of date and now inaccurate.] The tiny, ramshackle taproom adjacent to the brewery floor serves up very high quality beers. Getting there early is advised as the room can fill up rapidly. Four legged interlopers are common as there is a colony of feral cats nearby. It’s an easy walk from Smith-9th Street station, the highest elevated station on the NYC Subway. (2/2015, archive only)
We've now been to Other Half three times - once in 2014 before they were so hyped, and twice in 2017 once bedlam had set in. On our first April 2017 visit we arrived at 4.45pm for their 5pm opening and there were about 15 people ahead of us in the queue - it was rammed but with fast and efficient service they just about kept things moving. We returned the following Tuesday and it was much more mellow - still busy, with a great atmosphere, but a much more manageable crowd. The beer is outstanding and a visit to the tap room is now an unmissable part of any NYC beer trip, so we're happy to promote the tap room to a 'top pick'.
