Brewery tap with great beers, worth the long walk from the subway.
Directions – M train to Fresh Pond Road, head south on 62nd Street briefly, first left on 68th Avenue, turn right on 65th Street, follow the slight curve to the left under the railway bridges, follow a second left curve onto 70th Avenue, immediately turn right onto 65th Place, take the next left onto Central Avenue for some distance, follow the slight left curve where Central Avenue merges onto Cooper Avenue. Cross to the south of the underpass if not already there (do not follow the underpass route) which becomes Edsall Avenue, follow the right turn onto 76th Street, next left on 77th Avenue. Note this is over a mile walk.
A Spartan but smart taproom in front of Finback’s brewing floor. There are usually around 10 beers available, though the number of taps can accommodate up to 12. The bar top is marble, as is the back of the bar where the taps are mounted – giving a smart and clean look. The beers brewed here are of high quality. One side of the taproom area doubles as a loading dock. During the week (when closed to the public). The white painted walls are undecorated, apart from one side featuring paintings for sale. Brewery tours are given at 1500 Saturdays and Sundays. If hungry, seek out the folder of local restaurant menus for delivery to the brewery – this can usually be found on the table by the entrance. There’s a bottle share here on the first Thursday of the month. A bike rack was installed Summer 2015 inside the entrance door. Be aware that hours are changeable by season, it is recommended to check the website (linked above) before making the trek. A visit here is worth the hike from the subway (a half hour walk). (9/2015)
